Do Lawyers Use a CV or a Resume? [Multiple Scenarios]
Create Your Resume NowIt depends.
When applying for a position at a law firm, a private law practice, or in academia, it’s good to use a curriculum vitae for your job application. That’s because the curriculum vitae format offers more flexibility when it comes to the length of your application.
The hiring managers also expect the candidates to provide detailed information about their professional experience, education, certifications, associations, etc. Depending on the length and complexity of your law career, your CV can be up to three pages long.
However, if you’re applying for a lawyer position in a business enterprise (e.g. legal counsel or corporate associate jobs), it’s perfectly fine to send a law resume that’s just one-page long.
