2. Add the Perfect EMT Job Description for a Resume
Congratulations. The clinic director just called. He loved your EMT resume and wants to interview you. How did you do it? Your resume showed relevant experience for paramedic or EMT jobs, and you did it better than the others.
The work experience section is the blood of your resume. Make sure it’s blood type 0 by making a targeted resume:
- Start with your most recent job title.
- Add the hospital name and when you worked there.
- List 3-5 resume bullet points that show quantified achievements.

You know you need to show education on an EMT resume, but just showing the basics will not get you far. First, do what is required and mention:

- Certifications: List any additional certifications beyond basic EMT certification, such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
- Specialized Training: Include specialized training programs or workshops attended, such as hazardous materials handling, mass casualty incident training, or advanced airway management.
- Volunteer Experience: Highlight volunteer work, especially in emergency medical services, disaster response, or community health initiatives.

This is one of the toughest parts of your resume. But I’ll help you make it simple. A resume profile proves difficult to so many people because it serves as an abstract of your entire application.
First, pick the right type of your resume introduction:
- A resume objective works when your experience is very limited. Use it to grab the hospital hiring manager with your passion.
- A resume summary is for EMTs with lots of work experience. It makes the manager say, “Wow, this one knows her way around a bag valve mask.”
Here’s how to write a resume profile for EMT jobs:
- Start with an action word like compassionate or detail-oriented.
- Add your title (EMT-Beginner, Paramedic).
- List years of experience (1, 3+, 8).
