Now, let’s have a look at the steps to writing an excellent product development resume:

How to Write a Product Development Resume

You can make a resume for a product development position by following these simple instructions:

  1. Decide which resume format you want to use for your product development resume: the most popular one is the chronological resume, but you can also try a functional resume format or a combination resume.
  2. Create a resume header including your full name, a professional job title, an optional resume headline, and your resume contact information.
  3. Write a catchy resume profile. Depending on your experience, you can go for a resume summary (for experienced candidates) or a resume objective (best for entry-level candidates.)
  4. Describe your relevant work experience starting with the achievements and job duties at your most recent position. Not sure how far back should a resume go? 2–3 most recent jobs should be enough, as long as they’re relevant to the position you’re pursuing.
  5. List your education on a resume starting with your highest qualification, such as a college degree (you can also list an unfinished degree on a resume), and upgrade your resume with extracurricular activities and other relevant information about the academic experience.
  6. Think carefully about what skills to put on a resume for a product development specialist—it’s best if you combine soft skills and hard skills. In the next chapter, I’ll talk about specific skills you can add to your resume for product development positions.
  7. Add a bunch of extra resume sections to present additional qualifications, such as certificates and licenses, language skills, professional associations and memberships, or list volunteer work on your resume.
  8. Format your document by yourself by selecting the best resume fonts and appropriate resume margins, or download great resume templates that will do the job for you.

Pro Tip: Some hiring managers might expect even more than the best resume. They wish candidates to write a cover letter on top of it. It’s worth spending extra time expressing your passion for the job and presenting your qualifications in a cover letter format.
